Sophie studied Fine Art at Edinburgh College of Art & University, (graduating in 1997) and has worked as an exhibiting artist throughout the UK and abroad ever since. Her work is concerned with how the figure is altered visually by memory, reflections, imprints and history. Her work incorporates a mixed media approach, particularly through the layering of printmaking and acrylic paint. She is very interested in storytelling, fairy tales and fables - ancient and modern - and often juxtaposes these elements with contemporary imagery.

The new work featured in this latest show at Amber Arts continues with the theme of layering and storytelling. Some of the pieces utilise original text from the Grimm Fairy Tales, handwritten and then screenprinted in between layers of acrylic paint. Others explore the 'important' phrases we all use in everyday life - such as 'I love you', 'I'm sorry' and 'Thank You'. Each layer of screenprinted text is then interspersed with painted figurative imagery.
