LAND & SEA
Jill Hodge, Gillian Murray and Gill Tyson

Amber Arts presents ‘Land and Sea’ - an exhibition of new works by Jill Hodge, Gillian Murray and Gill Tyson. These three artists have more than their Christian names in common - they are all printmakers, they are based in Edinburgh, their inspiration comes from dramatic coastal land and seascapes and the result is an exciting and balanced exhibition.

Their inspiration ranges from the Cornish coast (Jill Hodge), the northwest coast of Scotland (Gillian Murray) and the Lofoten Islands of Norway (Gill Tyson).

They each use different print processes in their work – Gill Tyson uses Lithography and concentrates on the richness of expressive marks within the medium. She develops her prints by building up layers of colour to create depth and intensity in deceptively simple and distilled imagery.

Gillian Murray specialises in screenprints and has recently combined them with collagraphs. She is able to create a perfect equilibrium of two contrasting, almost opposing mediums with stunning results.

Jill Hodge explores the varied medium of etching in her recent work, which is based around St Ives and the surrounding Cornish coast. She creates multiple plates, printing consecutive layers of colour and textures in creating each image.
