Patrizio Belcampo
Born in Ravenna (Northern Italy) in 1979, Patrizio Belcampo studied English Literature at the University of Bologna.
In 2003 he moved to Edinburgh, where he became a member of Edinburgh Printmakers in 2005.
He is currently in his third year of studying Drawing and Painting at Edinburgh College of Art.
‘Whether it receives its impulse from a text, an image or an artistic tradition, Patrizio Belcampo’s work reveals an obstinate curiosity in exploring the relationships between living things and the material world around them.
It is a free and intimate dialogue with culture, conducted with the lively inaccuracy of approach favoured by the Middle Ages. It is by adulteration, as it were, that old tales evolve into new ones.
The silhouettes possess a vigour that traps the gaze into the line; they contain surprising revelations and suggest audacious functional possibilities.
Belcampo’s images do not waver between the serious and the facetious; they embrace both, leaving in the viewer a sense of wonder and understanding’.
