Artist Statement
‘Abbeyhill Sketches’ is a series of spontaneous drawings inspired by the architecture and people of Abbeyhill. The works consist of multi layered pencil drawings and hand written text, overlayed through the medium of silkscreen printing onto paper. The body of work also consists of collages of silkscreen layers and mixed media drawings onto canvas.
Abbeyhill, like many neighbourhoods in Edinburgh is constantly changing yet is layered by its long history and the memories of the people who have lived and are still living in Abbeyhill and walking the streets everyday. I wanted to create an exhibition of exciting drawings, which capture present day Abbeyhill.
