Statement
My background as a photographer was to use the photograph as a document, a record of my life. As a result I have built up a large body of documentary work. Over the last two years I have decided to pursue fine art photography, rather than more commercial ventures, creating a distinct shift in aesthetic.
In my current work, taken around Edinburgh, I have purposefully chosen to stalk the pavements more than the skyline. I think there is much more to be gained about the true character of the city there, rather than the superficial ideal.
Exploring composition is central to my work, and I often use colour as a structural component. Shadows also feature a lot and remain a constant source of curiosity because of the way they interrupt and re define space.
